K Vanlalvena makes appeal for Kuki-chin refugees at All Party Leaders Meeting

Aizawl, 31 Jan (Zoram News): The state lone Rajya Sabha MP Pu K Vanlalvena on Monday made an appeal for to allow the Kuki Chin  refugee to allow enter in Mizoram at the All Party Leaders Meeting held under the chairmanship of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh held in the Parliament Library Committee room.

“The unarmed civilians are being caught in a crossfire between the Bangladesh Army and insurgent groups. They must be allowed to enter Mizoram as they are not safe in their country. The BSF should be instructed not to push back the innocent civilians,” he said.

The state lone Rajya Sabha MP Pu K Vanlalvena on Monday made an appeal for to allow the Kuki Chin refugee to allow enter in Mizoram at the All Party Leaders Meeting held under the chairmanship of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh held in the Parliament Library Committee room.
The Rajya Sabha member was echoing the sentiments of Mizo general public when he demanded entry of Chin-Kuki refugees, who share the same ethnicity and ancestry with the Mizos, into Mizoram.

He has gone on record to say that not allowing the “ethnic Mizo” from Bangladesh to enter India will amount to “discrimination on ethnic grounds” as in the 1970s thousands of displaced Chakmas (mostly Buddhists) from Bangladesh were allowed to enter India and settle in Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh.

Earlier this month, Mizoram revenue minister and ruling Mizo National Front (MNF) adviser Lalruatkima on Tuesday said that the state government has been making constant efforts and will continue to do so to provide assistance to the ethnic Mizo or Kuki-Chin refugees from Bangladesh on humanitarian grounds.

He said that the Mizoram government could not ignore their plights of seeking shelter in Mizoram and the government and would continue to maintain the Mizo code of ethics- Tlawmngaina to help them. "We can't ignore the plights and sufferings of our brothers and sisters. We will approach even the Centre for humanitarian aid if necessary.
