Information & Public Relations department celebrates Golden Jubilee

Aizawl, 28 March (zoramnews): Chief Minister Pu Zoramthanga graced the Golden Jubilee Celebration of the Information & Public Relations Department as the chief guest which was held at the Department’s Auditorium at Aizawl. Minister of State, Information & Public Relations Pu Lalruatkima also graced the occasion as the guest of honour.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister congratulated the Department on completing 50 years in the service of the people and the government of Mizoram. Recalling the rudimentary means of communication which was employed to reach the masses in the early 1970s, he said the Department played a pivotal role then and still continues to play a very vital role for the government in dissemination of information.

Commenting that media is a very powerful tool today, he said we must exercise caution in using new media, particularly social media and be vigilant towards negating its undesirable effects. He also said the media must be unbiased in their reporting and must ensure adequate coverage of news that concerns all sections of the society.

Minister, Information & Public Relations, Pu Lalruatkima who also spoke on the occasion stressed on the need for cooperation between government media and the press to achieve the vision and the programmes of the government of the day.

He also added that the Department’s role as a feedback channel ensures that the government feels the pulse of the people and this he said is of vital importance.


Director, I & PR Pi Lallianpuii in her speech traced the origins of the Department and highlighted the role played by the Department through 50 years of its journey.

The Chief Minister unveiled a plaque to commemorate the Golden Jubilee celebration and also released a Souvenir on the occasion. Former officers and staff of the Department were handed Mementos as a token of appreciation for their services on the occasion.
