Thunderstorm damages property in Mizoram

Aizawl, 18 April (PTI): Pre-monsoon squalls and hailstorm has left trails of destruction along the Mizoram-Bangladesh-Tripura border during the past 48 hours damaging at least 350 houses. Mamit town had to bear most of the burnt as power transmission lines were damaged with at least ten electric polls uprooted, leaving the town completely powerless.

In Mamit town, 65 private homes were partially damaged while 16 homes were completely destroyed and 21 government buildings were damaged including a church building of the Church of God (Seventh Day). At least 170 houses were destroyed in West Phaileng of which 40 houses were completely destroyed. Many houses were also damaged in Khawhnai, Tuirum, Ailawng, Dapchhuah and West Serzawl villages.
