Peace Day to be Held in Mizoram on June 30

Aizawl, 22 April(PTI): A meeting of all the political parties in Mizoram convened by the central committee of the Young Mizo Association (YMA) agreed to celebrate ‘Remna Ni’ or Peace Day all across the state on June 30.

‘Remna Ni’, which is on June 30 is the anniversary of the signing of the historic Mizo Accord by the Centre and the erstwhile underground Mizo National Front (MNF) bringing peace to the trouble-torn Mizoram after 20 years of insurgency and bloodshed.

Representatives of the political parties suggested that the day should be celebrated every year and functions should be organized by the central committee of the YMA to ensure participation of all political parties and the people as a whole.

Earlier, the day was celebrated by the MNF party alone and the day was declared as a public holiday since 1987.
