Mizo students excel in Eastern India Science Fair 2016

Aizawl, Jan 22: Mizo students came out with flying colours in the recently concluded Eastern India Science & Engineering Fair 2016 (EISF) – 2016 organised by Birla Industrial & Technological Museum, Kolkata, during January 12 – 16, 2016.

The 25 students and teachers from Mizoram who participated in the Science Fair bagged a number of prizes.

Jane Lalnunsiami, St Pauls HSS, Aizawl, (Model: Automatic Time Based irrigation) bagged State best model while Zothansanga, St Pauls HSS, Aizawl, (Model: Hydro Electric Home system) and Vanlalfeli, Bethel Mission School, Champhai, (Model: Improvised bio-gas plant from human waste) bagged Special prize model.

The other prizes that they bagged include: Pattern making – Malsawmsanga, St Peters HSS, Chhingchhip, (1stPrize) and Electronic camp – Zorinmawii, Govt. Chaltlang HS, (1st Prize) bagged Work exp camp; Mask making – C. Lalnunfeli, Baptist HSS, Serkawn, 1st Prize; C. Lalnunfeli, Baptist HSS, Serkawn, Benedict Lalthakima, St Johns HSS, Kolasib, H. Lalhruaitluanga, St Pauls HSS, Aizawl in Quiz (runner up).

Eastern India Science & Engineering Fair is organized every year in the second week of January and in it students and teachers from Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Bengal, Bihar, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Odisha, Sikkim and Tripura takes part.

The programmes during the Fair include exhibition, science magic, meet the scientist, science work experience camp, science quiz competition, and cultural programme. Science Promotion Wing, SCERT conducts State Level Science Exhibition in different districts of the State every year to select students and teachers to represent Mizoram in the Eastern India Science & Engineering Fair, the main objective of which is to bring progress in science and mathematics.
