Aizawl, 19 Feb (Zoram News): Mizoram is making vigorous efforts to become the first fully digital state in India, Chief Minister Lalduhoma said on Thursday during the ongoing budget session of the 14th Mizoram Legislative Assembly.
“Only about 20 villages remain outside the state’s mobile and internet network,” Mr. Lalduhoma said. “Once these areas are connected, Mizoram will be fully linked by mobile signals and internet, making it the first state in the country to achieve this milestone.”
The state is also exploring the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools to strengthen Mizo language translation services, aiming to bridge language barriers and make digital resources more accessible to local communities.
Information and Communication Technology Minister Vanlalthlana informed the Assembly that, according to the Union Department of Telecommunications, 54 villages currently lack mobile or internet signals. Of these, 21 are uninhabited or deserted.
Under the ongoing “4G saturation project”, BSNL is installing mobile towers in 14 of those villages to close the network gap and ensure comprehensive digital coverage in the months ahead.
