The demand for a separate administration by Kuki legislators from Manipur's hill districts, in conjunction with SoO groups and Kuki CSOs, has gained momentum since the eruption of ethnic violence in the northeastern state on May 3.

The root cause of the turmoil in Manipur traces back to a high court order issued in May, instructing the state government to consider the inclusion of the non-tribal Meitei community in the list of Scheduled Tribes. This order ignited widespread ethnic clashes, resulting in over 160 casualties and several hundred injuries. The violence initially erupted on May 3 during a 'Tribal Solidarity March' organized in hill districts to protest against the Meitei community's demand for Scheduled Tribe status.
