Mega Blood Donation Drive Commemorating Remna Ni Kicks Off in Mizoram

Aizawl, 3 June (Zoram News): General Administration Department (GAD) of the Government of Mizoram, in collaboration with the Association for Voluntary Blood Donation (AVBD) and the Central YMA, has commenced a month-long mega blood donation drive to honor Remna Ni. The inaugural function took place yesterday at Dawrpui Multipurpose Hall, with the esteemed presence of Mizoram's Chief Minister, Pu Zoramthanga, as the Chief Guest.

General Administration Department (GAD) of the Government of Mizoram, in collaboration with the Association for Voluntary Blood Donation (AVBD) and the Central YMA, has commenced a month-long mega blood donation drive to honor Remna Ni. The inaugural function took place yesterday at Dawrpui Multipurpose Hall, with the esteemed presence of Mizoram's Chief Minister, Pu Zoramthanga, as the Chief Guest.
During his inaugural address, the Chief Minister emphasized the significance of the mega blood donation camp as an opportunity to provide assistance to those in need. He underscored the importance of Remna Ni, which commemorates the signing of the Mizoram Peace Accord.

Chief Minister acknowledged the sacrifices made by numerous young individuals during the insurgency period, wherein many gave up their lives for the cause. He expressed gratitude to the people of Mizoram for enduring immense suffering during that challenging era. The Chief Minister proudly stated that Mizoram, once the most tumultuous state in the North East, has now become the most peaceful.

He emphasized that the hardships faced by Mizoram in the past have instilled empathy within its people, enabling them to readily extend help to those in need. He called upon the public to wholeheartedly participate in the blood donation drive to honor the sacrifices made and emphasized the importance of this act of generosity and compassion.

Pu K. Lalthawmmawia, the GAD Commissioner & Secretary, also addressed the gathering, emphasizing the significance of Remna Ni and reflecting on the challenges faced by the people during the insurgency period. He highlighted the transformative journey towards development that commenced with the signing of the peace accord. He urged the people to cherish, preserve, and nurture peace, stressing its value and the need to safeguard it. The Secretary announced a series of activities and events to celebrate Remna Ni during the month of June, organized by various departments of the Mizoram government in collaboration with affiliated associations and societies. The Mega Blood Donation Month is a significant part of these celebrations, he added.

The President of the Central YMA, Pu R. Lalngheta, appealed to YMA members to actively participate in the blood donation drive and contribute to saving the lives of patients in need. Recognizing the noble act of blood donation, he emphasized the importance of donors being in good health and free from any substance addiction. Pu R. Lalngheta specifically addressed the issue of drug and alcohol addiction, urging young people and YMA members to abstain from such harmful substances and prioritize their well-being. He emphasized the significance of maintaining good health to make meaningful contributions to society, including through blood donation.

The inaugural event was presided over by AVBD President Pu C. Lalnunnema, and it saw high school students aged 18 and above initiating the blood donation camp by generously donating blood.

The month-long celebration of Remna Ni will include various activities such as district-level essay writing competitions for Higher Secondary students, painting and photo exhibitions by the Department of I&PR, tree sapling planting by the Forests Department, cleanliness drives at all District Headquarters by UD&PA, digital flyer and short video competitions, and blood donation drives in all districts.

The Mizoram government's initiative to conduct a mega blood donation drive in conjunction with Remna Ni is an endeavor to honor the sacrifices made during the insurgency period while promoting the noble act of blood donation for the betterment of society.
