Aizawl, 3 June (Zoram News): Lallianzuala Chhangte, the dynamic forward of the Indian football team, burst onto the scene during the 2015 SAFF Championships with an impressive brace against Nepal in only his second appearance for the national team. This remarkable performance contributed to India's seventh SAFF Championship title win, and since then, Chhangte has become a key player in the Indian football setup.

Hailing from Mizoram, Chhangte has represented the Indian team at the U-19 and U-23 levels before establishing himself as a regular member of the senior national team. Known for his raw pace, close-control dribbling, and long-range shooting abilities, Chhangte is also recognized as one of the fittest players in the Indian squad.

Chhangte's journey in football began when he participated in the DSK Shivajians' Liverpool International Football Academy trials in Aizawl. He then moved to Pune for the subsequent phase of trials, where he impressed the scouts and subsequently signed for DSK Shivajians. He represented the club in the U-18 and U-19 I-League for two seasons before earning an opportunity to train with Liverpool FC's youth academy in England, alongside Odisha FC's Jerry Mawihmingthanga.

Since then, Chhangte's career has progressed steadily. He worked his way up to the DSK Shivajians' first team and has continued to excel ever since. In the recently concluded Indian Super League (ISL) 2022-23 season, Chhangte was honored with the Player of the League award, a testament to his outstanding performances.

Recalling his time with the Liverpool International Academy, Chhangte expressed how it shaped him into the professional player he is today. He emphasized the importance of hard work, dedication, and maintaining a strict fitness regimen, both on and off the field.

After recovering from a back injury in 2021, Chhangte has regained his full fitness and reclaimed his spot in the Indian national team. India's head coach, Igor Stimac, commended Chhangte's professionalism and commitment to the game, noting the rewards it has brought for the 25-year-old forward.

With his recent inclusion in the 27-member squad for the Intercontinental Cup and the SAFF Championships, Chhangte aims to solidify his position in the Indian team and secure a spot in the upcoming AFC Asian Cup 2023. Having missed out on the previous edition in 2019, he is determined to make his mark on the continental stage.
