Mizoram sees increase in number of females relative to males

Aizawl, 29 April (Zoram News): According to the Directorate of Economics & Statistics, Mizoram's population has reached 2,61,707, with 70,545 males and 18,933 females.

Between 2011 and 2021, the population increased by 2,61,707, with an annual growth rate that has been inconsistent over the past decade.

The highest increase in population was in 2012, when 26,042 people were added to the population. From 2012 to 2018, the population grew steadily, followed by a slower pace of growth from 2019 onwards. During this period, the number of females increased more than the number of males, with 976 females per 1,000 males.

Mizoram has seen an increase in the number of females relative to males. This is a positive trend, as it indicates progress towards gender equality.

As of 2021, the total population of Mizoram is 70,545, with 44,739 males and 25,806 females. This means that 63.42% of the population are males and 36.58% are females.

Over the past decade, the male population has grown by an average of 63%, with the growth rate remaining consistent between 2011 and 2019, and increasing slightly to 64.93% in 2017.

In a recent event at Aizawl Club, Zoram Titi, a ten-part video series, was launched with the theme "Can Mizos save their land?" The series explores the population growth trends and its impact on the state's resources. The event also featured a presentation by the Director of Economics & Statistics, B Lalrinhlua, who shared various statistics on the population growth and related issues.

In other news, the state's sex ratio has improved from 1.9 in 2019-2020 to its current value of 2.3. The Director of Economics & Statistics, B Lalrinhlua, has attributed this improvement to various initiatives aimed at improving the status of women in the state.
