Aizawl, 9 March (Zoram News): Mizoram State Election Commission has announced that the first General Election to Lunglei Municipal Council, 2023 will take place on March 29, 2023, as per Section 346 (1) of the Mizoram Municipalities Act, 2007.
In accordance with the constitution of India, 33 percent of seats are reserved for women, which means that four wards, Ward No. II (Serkawn, Zohnuai), Ward No. VIII (Ramthar, Farm Veng), Ward No. V (Sazaikawn, Hauruang, Rahsi Veng), and Ward No. X (Sethlun, Luangmual, Theiriat, Hrangchalkawn), will be reserved for female candidates.
The Congress party released its list of candidates on Wednesday, while the Zoram Peoples Movement (ZPM), Mizo National Front (MNF), and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) announced their candidates today. The upcoming elections have garnered significant attention as it is the first General Election for the newly-created Lunglei Municipal Council (LMC) in Mizoram.
