44 Kgs of Pangolin Scales seizes in Zokhawthar-Melbuk

Aizawl, 3 June (Zoram News):In a significant victory against the illegal smuggling of exotic wildlife, the Serchhip Battalion of Assam Rifles successfully recovered a consignment of Pangolin Scales on the Zokhawthar-Melbuk Road today.

Acting on specific information regarding an illicit transshipment from Aizawl to Zokhawthar, a team from Assam Rifles conducted a well-coordinated operation. The suspected individuals, identified as Lalmuankim (39 yrs) from Chanmari West, Aizawl, and Issac (38 yrs) from Zemabawk, Aizawl, Mizoram, were intercepted at the PVCP (Permanent Vehicle Check Post) of Assam Rifles. The team discovered suspicious bags in their TATA Sumo (MZ 01F 5302), which were later confirmed to contain Pangolin Scales weighing approximately 44 kilograms. The market value of the seized scales is estimated to be around 44 lakhs.

Following the successful operation, the recovered consignment was promptly handed over to the Land Customs Station in Zokhawthar for further legal proceedings. The Assam Rifles team's swift action and vigilance have dealt a blow to the ongoing smuggling of exotic animals, a major concern for the state of Mizoram, particularly along the India-Myanmar Border.
