Mizoram Sees Significant Rise in Cybercrime Cases

Aizawl, 28 April (Zoram News): The Director General of Police (DGP) Devesh Chandra Srivastava has expressed concern over the alarming increase in cybercrime cases in Mizoram. As per the latest data, the state police have registered over 1,033 cases related to cybercrime, which is a significant rise. The DGP further added that various forms of cybercrime, including financial fraud, sexual cyber harassment, child pornography, and illegal activities through the dark web, are prevalent not only in Mizoram but also across the globe.

Director General of Police (DGP) Devesh Chandra Srivastava has expressed concern over the alarming increase in cybercrime cases in Mizoram, he added that various forms of cybercrime, including financial fraud, sexual cyber harassment, child pornography, and illegal activities through the dark web, are prevalent not only in Mizoram but also across the globe.
To address these issues, the state police, in collaboration with the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Aizawl, organized a 3-day Hackathon event. The objective of the event is to brainstorm and create innovative ideas and solutions to tackle the challenges faced by the police in their daily operations. The inaugural function of the Hackathon event, held at the police headquarters in Aizawl, was graced by the state Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati.

According to the DGP, the state police have arrested 54 people in connection with cybercrime cases, and 16 of them have already been convicted. Apart from cybercrime, Srivastava also highlighted other pressing issues, such as drug trafficking, human trafficking, and Aizawl city traffic management, that require immediate attention.

The Hackathon event is an excellent initiative that brings together experts, technocrats, and law enforcement agencies to explore innovative ideas and solutions to tackle the challenges faced by the police. With the rise in cybercrime cases in Mizoram and across the globe, such initiatives play a crucial role in enhancing the capabilities of law enforcement agencies to combat these threats effectively.
