Lalzuithanga elected as Chairman of Lunglei Municipal Council

Lunglei, 4 April (Zoram News): Zoram People's Movement (ZPM) has won all 11 seats in the first elections to the Lunglei Municipal Council (LMC), resulting in the party's Lalzuithanga, a retired school teacher, being unanimously selected as the chairman. K Lalrinawma has been appointed as the vice-chairman.

The MNF party, led by Chief Minister Zoramthanga, suffered a major setback after securing only 29.4% of the votes, while the Congress secured 20% and the BJP received 0.75% of the total votes polled.

Lalzuithanga won the election with a margin of 456 votes, defeating his nearest opponent F Lalsawmkima of the MNF. The LMC area consists of four assembly constituencies, all of which were won by the MNF in 2018. The upcoming elections to the 40-member Mizoram assembly are scheduled to take place later this year.
