Champhai District Level Committee on Myanmar discuss humanitarian issues

Aizawl, 21 March (Zoram News):  Champhai District Level Committee on Myanmar convened a meeting today, 21st March 2023, to discuss the project entitled 'Protection and Humanitarian Assistance to New Arrivals from Myanmar in Mizoram Refugees.' The meeting was held at the DC Conference Hall and was attended by officials from ADRA and other relevant parties.

ADRA is a global non-profit organization that provides aid and support to individuals in need during emergencies and disasters. It has its headquarters in Maryland, USA and is present in 138 countries worldwide, including India, where it was established in 1992 and is headquartered in Gurgaon, Haryana State.

The meeting focused on the relief work that has been carried out in the Champhai District in western Mizoram. The project has been implemented in four districts, and this year it will be extended to Champhai and Aizawl districts. The priority is to provide assistance to recent refugees, and a 12-month plan has been developed for this purpose.

The project includes provisions for food, daily necessities, health, drop-in centers, school children, children friendly spaces, and other essential amenities. As of 20th March 2023, there are 10,226 refugees in 47 villages in the Champhai District. Of these, 3,033 are male, 3,264 are female, and 3,929 are children.

The refugees are currently residing in 34 relief camps, with 13 camps constructed in 2021 and 21 camps in 2022. Out of the total number of refugees, 2,643 are living in relief camps, while 7,583 are residing outside the camps.

The profiling of all 10,226 refugees has been completed, and temporary IDs have been issued to 9,488 of them. The remaining 738 refugees are currently undergoing the ID processing procedure.
