Health Minister inaugurates Regional review meeting for 10 States

Aizawl, 2 Oct (Zoram News): National Vector Borne Disease Control Program (NVBDCP) and 10 State Health & Family Welfare Departments held a threeday (29th September, 2022 – 1st October, 2022) meeting at Assembly Annex Conference Hall Health Minister Dr R. Lalthangliana inaugurated the Regional Review Meeting (RRM) on Wednesday.

Lalthangliana inaugurated the Regional Review Meeting (RRM) on Wednesday.
The Regional Review Meeting (RRM) is used to held quarterly annually in the seven (7) North-East States (Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura) Projected States of the Global Fund for AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (GFATM).

Program Officers, Regional Directors, Consultants of Vector Borne Disease Control Programs from 10 States and experts from the Government of India attend the programme , as many as 80 VBD staff from various States attended the function. The meeting also discusses the progress of the Malaria Control Program in India.

The meeting also discusses the Malaria Control Program in India. Speaking at the opening ceremony, Chief Guest Dr R. Lalthangliana welcomed the delegates from various states and said that he hoped the review meeting would have a profound impact on malaria eradication.

Dr R. Lalthangliana further mentioned that four of Mizoram's nine districts - Lunglei, Lawngtlai, Siaha and Mamit are in Category 3: Intensified Control Phase (High Endemic District). Category 1: Elimination Phase (Low Endemic District) districts are in malaria eradication status. 80% of Mizoram's malaria cases are from the above four districts, he said, adding that NGOs, religions/ churches, schools and Village Councils should work together. From January 2022 to August 2022, 7,672 malaria cases and five deaths were reported in Mizoram, while from January to December 2021, 5,637 malaria cases and 10 death were reported

The Chief Guest said that malaria cases have increased in the first eight months of this year compared to last year. He said that the government has taken steps to improve the quality of life in the country.

Mizoram is currently the most malaria-prone state in India. Four out of nine districts, Lunglei, Lawngtlai, Mamit and Siaha, are malaria-prone districts. During Jan-Aug this year, 7,672 malaria cases have been diagnosed in Mizoram and five people have died of malaria. During Jan-Dec 2021, 5637 people were diagnosed with malaria and 10 people died. The Health & Family Welfare Department (HFW) has reported more malaria cases in the first eight months of this year than in the previous year.

Mizoram Government is working together with other states to achieve the goal of making India a malaria-free country by 2030 with Government initiatives such as Indoor Residual Spray (IRS), daily use of ITN/LLIN, vector control measures and personal protection education are being implemented by IEC/BCC.

NHM/ Health Department is also working with Mizoram Government departments for Intersectoral Convergence. ABER – Annual Blood Examination Rate (Annual Blood Examination Rate as a Percentage of Population) API – Annual Parasite Incidence (Annual Parasite Incidence per 1000 population)

The opening ceremony was chaired by Pi Esther Lalruatkimi, Principal Secretary, H&FW. Tanu Jain, Director, H&FW and Central officials were also present. Dr. Eric Zomawia, Mission Director, National Health Mission concluded the programme with vote thanks.
