NEHU gets new Vice-Chancellor

Shillong, 23 July: The President of India has appointed Prof. Prabha Shankar Shukla as the new Vice-Chancellor (VC) of North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) for a term of five years.

The Government of India issued a notification about the appointment as per Statue 2A(1) of the North-Eastern Hill University Act, 1973, laying down terms and conditions as set forth in the ordinances of the university.

Prof. Shukla was earlier a professor at the G.B. Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pantnagar, Uttarakhand. He has also been a member of various institutes in the country, having contributed to the scientific world with his leading research works.

Institutions from across the country recognised his vast contribution in the field of agricultural sciences both nationally and internationally, conferring upon him various recognitions over the course of time. Among other things, Prof. Shukla has also been conferred with the scientist of the year award for 2011 and 2015.

In addition to the appointment of Prof. Shukla, the president who is the visitor of central universities, also approved the appointment of VCs of 11 other central universities in the country.
