Vijay Goel announces football academy in Mizoram

Aizawl, 27 June 2017:  Union Sports Minister Vijay Goel on Monday said that a football academy would be set up at the Mizoram Football Association’s (MFA) football ground at Sairang Dinthar near Aizawl.

Goel, who is on a maiden two-day visit to Mizoram after becoming the Union Minister, said that the Football Academy would be set up in view of the recent excellent performance of Mizoram teams in national level football tournaments.

Goel also wrote about his visit on Twitter. “Announced a new #football academy in #Mizoram during my visit to Sairang here in Aizawl; great platform for budding footballers. #sports.”

Mizoram’s Aizawl Football Club bagged the prestigious I-League 2017 while Mizoram team also won the National Games football in 2015 and the the Santosh Trophy in 2014.

Goel also visited the Suaka Memorial Cricket Ground in Sihhmui as well as the SAI facilities in the state. He will also attend Mission XI Million Football Festival at Lammual on Tuesday.
