Mizo Students' Union shuts down cement companies in state

Aizawl, June 21, 2017: Mizo Students Union has forced six cement companies in Aizawl to shut down their godowns from today as it began a campaign to lower cement prices in Mizoram.


A release of the MSU said the six cement companies have shut down their godowns as they refused to sell cement not higher than Rs 360 per bag fixed by the students’ union. The MSU said, it will continue a strict vigil to ensure that no cement companies sell cement higher than Rs 360 per bag.


In a press conference in Aizawl on Monday, MSU president R B Lalmalsawma said after a survey in other northeastern states, they found out that cement prices are the highest in Mizoram. The MSU requested the eight cement companies operating in Mizoram to fix cement price not higher than Rs 360. “Only one cement company has agreed to it so far,” Lalmalsawma said
