Aizawl, 20 May (PTI): The ruling Congress won 15 village councils (VC) followed by the opposition Mizo National Front (MNF) bagging eight in the by-election yesterday.
Two village councils were bagged by independents while BJP and Zoram Nationalist Party won one VC each and no parties have majority in four villages, election officials said.
The VC by-polls were held yesterday as elections could not be held in the areas adjoining Manipur and Assam along with the rest of the state in April last year due to threats to the political parties by the Manipur-based Hmar people's Convention (Democratic) militants.
