Mizoram Assembly set to adopt a resolution against the Uniform Civil Code

Aizawl, 6 Feb (Zoram News):  The Mizoram Assembly is likely to adopt a resolution expressing their opposition to the Uniform Civil Code, an official has indicated.

Home Minister Lalchamliana is set to put forth an official motion against the UCC at the beginning of the budget session on February 7, as declared by a government official.

Last week, the Mizo National Front (MNF) Legislature party, currently in power, opposed a proposed implementation of UCC within the country and promised to take action during the budget session to pass a resolution in opposition to it.

In response to a query by K. Vanlalvena of the Mizoram Rajya Sabha, Kiren Rijiju Union Law Minister declared that the government had requested the 21st Law Commission to investigate numerous matters concerning the UCC. He also inform that at present there has been no decision taken on introducing the Uniform Civil Code in India.

The Uniform Civil Code is a proposal in India to formulate and implement personal laws of citizens which apply on all citizens equally regardless of their religion, gender and sexual orientation.
