Champhai, 30 Sept (Zoram News): Along with the rest of the world, ‘World Heart Day’ was observed in Champhai by the National Programme for Prevention & Control of Cancer, Diabetes, Cardio-vascular Diseases and Stroke (NPCDCS) with a theme of ‘Use heart for every heart’yesterday.
World Heart Day programme organized in District Hospital Champhai was presided over by Dr.Zatluanga, District Medical Superintendent, District Hospital Champhai. He highlighted cancer, heart attack and stroke are increased due to lack of exercise, over nutrition, ignoring health. Early detection of disease is important to have good health, he said. He spoke on cleanliness and said to keep the hospital clean is the responsibility of all who visited the hospital.
Dr. PC Lalawmpuia, MD, District Hospital Champhai highlighted the topic of 'Use heart for every heart' and said things to know on heart. Though the Non Communicable Diseases (NCD) like cancer, heart attack, stroke and diabetes are serious diseases, it could be prevented if the lifestyle is changed, he said. Prevention is better than giving up smoking, exercising, and taking healthy foods only after illness, he added.
The World Heart Day programme was concluded by Dr. RE Lalremruata, DPO, NPCDCS, Champhai delivering vote of thanks. World Heart Day is observed and celebrated annually on September 29, with the aim of increasing awareness of cardiovascular diseases and how to control them to negate their global impact.
The international holiday was established by the World Heart Federation in collaboration with the World Health Organization. The president of the World Heart Federation from 1997 to 1999, Antoni Bayés de Luna, had conceived.
