NSS Day celebrates in Aizawl

Aizawl, 24 Sept (ZoramNews): School Education Minister Mr. Lalchhandama Ralte yesterday grace the function as Chief Guest in the celebration of the 53rd NSS Day at Vana Pa Hall, Aizawl.

NSS Day is celebrated on September 24, but due to convenience, it is celebrated today. The School Education Minister said that NSS volunteers' good deeds for the community and the country will not be in vain. NSS theme Not me but you is life for others and it is God's word, he said.

School Education Minister Mr. Lalchhandama Ralte yesterday grace the function as Chief Guest in the celebration of the 53rd NSS Day at Vana Pa Hall, Aizawl.

NSS volunteers are living Mizo life by living their theme and living the life of the Lord Jesus from Christianity, he said. The Minister said that many of our cultures are declining and we are less and less willing to live for others. NSS Volunteers should use Not me but you in the community. He invited the volunteers to sacrifice themselves as a blessing to others.

The Minister presented the State Level NSS Award for 2021-2022 to C. Lalramliana, NSS Program Officer, Govt. Serchhip College and Lalrempuii Sailo NSS Volunteer Govt. The Award includes a certificate of appreciation and cash prize. The Minister also presented the Sports Minister's Trophy for Voluntary Blood Donation. Hrangbana College and third place Govt. Aizawl College is the best.

Among Higher Secondary School - Synod HSS came first, Helen Lowry SS came second and Govt. Central HSS received the award. Rs 2,00,000/- (Two lakhs ) was distributed to the winners. Guest of Honour Mr. K.Lalrohlua, Director, Sports & Youth Services Department said that NSS volunteers are doing good work for the community .

The 2021-2022 NSS Annual Achievement Report was also launched. Dr Benjamin L. Saitluanga, Program Coordinator, NSS Cell MZU chaired the programme. Dr Zirlianngura, State NSS Officer, NSS Cell Mizoram explained the origin of NSS, its general objectives and the most important activities of NSS Mizoram in the last three years.

NSS Day was celebrated by NSS institutions across Mizoram today. NSS Day celebration was attended by some institutions who donated blood for patients, while others cleaned their own institutions and public places. The NSS was established on September 24, 1969 to mark Mahatma Gandhi's 100th birth anniversary.

In Mizoram, NSS was established in 1972 at Pachhunga University College. After that, colleges were established. In 1996, Pre-University (PU) was no longer available in colleges and NSS was established in Higher Secondary Schools. There are 100 schools and colleges with NSS Units in Mizoram. 60 NSS Program Officers and 900 Volunteers from 32 Institutions gathered at the NSS day celebration.
