Imphal, 2 March : In an unfortunate incident, a vehicle carrying security personnel for Manipur election met with an accident in Tamenglong district, killing one personnel and injuring 10 others in the wee hours on Wednesday.
As per the police report, the incident took place at around 1:30 am near Tamenglong college due to mechanical failure.
The deceased personnel has been identified as Lalawmpuia from Zion Veng, Champhai of Mizoram. At least eight personnel of Mizoram police are in critical condition, it said.
“In a very unfortunate incident on 2.3.2022 at 1:30AM, a medium truck vehicle carrying Mizoram SAPF personnel deployed for election duty at Manipur met with an accident at Tamenglong College campus in Tamenglong District, Manipur,” a statement issued by the Mizoram Police said.
As per directions from the government, all the injured personnel along with the deceased personnel were airlifted to Imphal.
The injured have been admitted to RIMS hospital for further treatment, while the body of the deceased was taken to JNIMS for post mortem, officials said.
Meanwhile, the authorities are still investigating the incident, the police said.
