Aizawl, 15 July: The North East Students Organization (NESO) wrote to Union Home Minister, Amit Shah demanding an intervention into the Northeast Inter-Boundary Dispute.
In the letter, the students’ body claimed that crucial issue of the inter state boundary dispute involving the states of Mizoram, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh and Assam has been accelerating since too long where tension and conflict cropped time without any solution, thereby resulting immense hardship and suffering for people residing around these disputed border areas, that have cost their lives.
NESO stated, it has been urging the respective state governments to solve the issue but unfortunately till date no concrete steps taken by the respective state governments.
NESO calls upon the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) to urgently intervene in the matter by playing a significant role to bring a lasting solution to the dispute. It further asserted that various agreements have been reached between the respective state governments to maintain a status quo in the disputed areas but these decree failed to honour the decision, resulting to chaos and damage of people’s property living in these areas.
NESO wishes that respective state governments honour their own commitments and adhere by all the recent advances to bring the situation back to normalcy, till a clear and acceptable solution is arrived at.
It informed the Home Minister that many of the disputed areas are being occupied by the illegal migrants from Bangladesh, who pose a threat to the demography and security of the region.
The North Eastern Students’ Organisation (NESO) represents the major eight students body of NorthEast- the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU), All Assam Students’ Union (AASU), Naga Students’ Federation (NSF), Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP), Tripura Students’ Federation (TSF), All Manipur Students’ Union (AMSU), Garo Students’ Union (GSU) and All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU).
