Mizoram police files FIR against Assam CM, six others

Guwahati, Jul 31 (UNI): The Assam-Mizoram border spat has turned into full blown conflict with Mizoram police filing an FIR against Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and six others on various charges ranging from `bid to murder’ to violation of arms act.

The FIR, filed at the Vairengte police station in Kolasib district, names CM Sarma, IGP Anurag Aggarwal, DIG Cachar Devajyoti Mukherjee, DC Cachar Keerthi Jalli, DFO Cachar Sunnydeo Choudhury, SP Cachar Chandrakant Nimbalkar, OC Dholai police station Sahab Uddin.

The sections invoked against them include 307/120-B/270/325/326 and 353/336/ 334/448/34 of the Indian Penal Code and Section 3 of the Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation (BEFR) as well as Section 3 and 6 of the Mizoram Containment and Prevention of COVID 19 Act and Section 27(1) (a) of the Arms Act.

The case was filed at Vairengte police station in Kolasib district of Mizoram by the local inspector, H Lalchawimawia. The Kolasib district that borders Assam’s Cachar district, witnessed violent clashes on Monday where five police officers from Assam were killed. In a separate FIR

Mizo Zirlai Pawl, an influential student body of Mizoram, has also filed an FIR at Vairengte police station in Mizoram against Assam CM Sarma and six others for a `bid to murder’ in connection with the border flare-up on Monday.
