Mizoram government implements financial assistance under SEDP

Aizawl, March 1, 2020 (Newsmai) : The Mizoram government has disbursed the first cash assistance for model bamboo plantation under its flagship programme- Socio-Economic Development Policy (SEDP), a senior official said on Sunday.

State Horticulture director Elizabeth Saipari said that chief minister Zoramthanga doled out the cash assistance amounting to more than Rs 26.8 lakh to 215 beneficiaries during a function held at Lengpui on Saturday. She also said that at least 226 beneficiaries- 100 from Hmunpui village and another 126 from Lengpui, have been selected for model bamboo plantation.

The financial assistance was given to 215 beneficiaries while the remaining 11 will be given later. Each beneficiary was given Rs 12,500 and they will get additional assistance depending  on their performance, she added.

This is the first financial assistance being distributed to beneficiaries for bamboo project under the flagship programme- SEDP.

Zoramthanga said that the bamboo development scheme is one of the important projects of the state government under SEDP. He also said that the scheme would contribute towards economic reformation in the state. He added that the selection of 215 beneficiaries and financial distribution held on Saturday was one of the biggest initiatives undertaken by the state government in connection with massive bamboo plantation.

Citing that the success of the scheme depends on the beneficiaries, Zoramthanga said that additional assistance would be distributed to them depending on their performance.
