Drop in Mizoram crime cases

Aizawl, 28 Feb 2018: At least 2,707 cases related to various crimes have been registered by Mizoram police in various police stations last year, a crime review meeting of police officials said on Tuesday.

The annual crime review meeting convened under the leadership of deputy inspector-general of police (DIG) for northern and southern ranges Joseph Lalchhuana revealed that at least 2,837 cases of IPC and non-IPC were registered in 2016 against 2,707 in 2017.

The meeting observed that the menace of drug abuse is on the rise in the state as drug smuggling from neighbouring Myanmar has increased rapidly.

The police also cautioned against the increase in human trafficking. They said two Rohingya children from Myanmar, who were victims of trafficking, were recently rescued in Champhai district.
