Mizoram CM Inaugurates state’s largest tourism project

9 June: Mizoram Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla laid the foundation stone of the state’s biggest tourism project ‘Integrated Development of New Eco-Tourism’ at the Thenzawl Community Hall at Aizawl. Under the project, an 18 hole international standard Golf Course and a modern Convention Centre at Thenzawl, an eco-tourism resort Eco Lodge Cottage Cluster at nearby South Zote and adventure facilities such as Rapelling, Body Zorbing, Zip Line, Rope Course and Archery arena at Reiek would be set up at these locations.

Lal Thanhawla, inaugurating the project, said Thenzawl and adjoining areas have natural scenic beauty, Mizoram’s highest waterfall Vantawng, Tuirihau waterfall and other historical and cultural sites.

The project estimated at a cost Rs 94 crore would be funded by the Centre under the new Tourism Policy ‘Swadesh Darshan’ for the North East Circuit. Thenzawl is situated midway between Aizawl and south Mizoram’s Lunglei, the second largest urban habitation in the state.

The area is blessed with scenic beauty and a congenial climate all year round. South Zote is around 15 km from Thenzawl, while Reiek, another centre of the project, is about an hour’s drive from Aizawl and located at a hill top.
