Mizoram to hand over Colonel dacoity case to CBI

Aizawl, 26 May: Mizoram Home Minister R Lalzirliana said that Mizoram government is handing over the case of the dacoity of 52 smuggled gold bars worth Rs 14.5 crore to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) as an Army Colonel on deputation to the Assam Rifles and eight personnel of the 39thAssam Rifles were the main accused in the armed highway robbery case.

Lalzirliana said that the special investigation team constituted by the State Police did a commendable job by arresting 13 people including Col Singh, eight personnel and four civilians in connection with the case.

The dacoity was allegedly committed by Assam Rifles Jawans near Zampuimanga Tlan on the outskirt of Aizwal city where they decamped with 52 gold bars at gun point and handed over the “booty” to their commandant Col Jasjit Singh.The jawans reportedly reportedly told the members of The Special Investigation Team of the Mizoram Police investigating the case that they were handsomely rewarded and richly complemented by the commandant. Singh continued to assert that he was away when the dacoity was committed and his jawans were sent to intercept an arms consignment reported to have been sent from Myanmar.
