I League champion Bengaluru upset by Aizawl FC

Kolkata, 4 May (The Telegraph): I-League champions Bengaluru FC were stunned at the Kanteerava Stadium, as a lively Aizawl FC side beat them 3-2 in a second-leg Federation Cup tie, in Bangalore on Tuesday night.

Joel Sunday (26th, 37th) bagged a brace, while David Lalrinmuana (49th) completed their tally. CK Vineeth (28 th) and Sunil Chhetri (74th) scored for the I-League champions, but it wasn't enough to avoid elimination.

Bengaluru FC tried to be on the offensive from the word go, aware that they had to overcome the 1-2 deficit - the loss they suffered in their away game. But Alfred Jaryan went within a whisker of putting Aizawl ahead in the 14th minute, when his incredible shot from over 30 yards out was just wide of the target.

Sunday then increased the pressure on the home side as he gave his team the lead in the 26th minute, a vital away goal to put the tie firmly in their favour. After receiving the ball from Jaryan, the striker beat a defender and fired past Amrinder in goal. to make it 0-1 to Aizawl on Tuesday and 1-3 on aggregate
