Mizoram Guv voices urgency for awareness on disaster

Aizawl, 18 Aril: Governor Lt Gen (retd) Nirbhay Sharma today voiced the urgency for preparedness and safety tips against disaster, in the wake of the Thursday's night 7.0 earthquake that sent panic across the city.

In a meeting with officials of Disaster Management & Rehabilitation Department (DM&R) and the 1st Bn National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Guwahati, Sharma stressed the need and urgency to educate the people about the dos and don'ts in times of disaster like earthquake and landslides.

"The people must be well aware of safety tips and how to give first-aid treatment to injured persons," he said.

The Governor observed that earthquake becomes more massive and frequent and that the people of Mizoram should be well-informed of the fact that the state falls under seismic zone V (the most vulnerable earthquake zone) and that a massive earth.

The Governor felt that just spoken or written instructions may not be enough to educate the public, and urged the concerned officials to make use of other form of media like dramas and short films.

After the meeting, the DM&R and NDRF officials taught safety tips to the Governor family and staff of the Raj Bhavan.UNI ZS AKM SW AS1843
