Journalist Robert Lal Chhuana passes away

Aizawl , Jan 20 - Mizoram’s prominent journalist and seven times president of Mizoram Journalist Association (MJA) Robert Lal Chhuana died of cardiac disease at his residence in Siphhir on Wednesday. He was 76.

Robert, who started vernacular paper ‘Hruaina Eng’ in 1973 and later local daily ‘Romei’ had been suffering from Alzheimer and cardiac disease for the last four years. Robert, who was proclaimed to be the first prominent journalist in Mizoram, felt sudden fatigue this morning after coming back from bathroom and died. He is survived by his wife and four children.

Robert had visited different parts of India at the behest of the Mizoram government, and accompanied former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee at the SAARC summit in Pakistan in 2003. He also represented MJA in several national conferences.

The Mizoram Journalists’ Association and the youth wing of Congress party among others have condoled the death of Robert and conveyed their deepest condolences to the bereaved family.
